This Privacy Policy explains how Cafrica ("Cafrica", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information about you when you visit cafrica.pk, place an order with us, visit our café, or otherwise interact with us (together, the "Services").

1. Information We Collect

Information you give us

  • Order information: your name, billing and shipping address, email address, phone number, and payment details when you place an order.
  • Account information: your name, email address, and password if you create an account.
  • Communications: the content of messages you send through our contact form, by email, on WhatsApp, or on social media, including your name, email address, phone number, and enquiry type.
  • Marketing preferences: your email address and phone number if you subscribe to our newsletter or updates.
  • In-café information: reservation details, and any dietary or allergen information you choose to share with our staff.

Information we collect automatically

  • Device information: your browser type and version, IP address, time zone, operating system, and some of the cookies installed on your device.
  • Browsing information: the pages and products you view, the websites or search terms that referred you to us, and how you interact with our site.

We collect this information using cookies, log files, web beacons, tags, and pixels. See section 6 for more on cookies.

Information we receive from others

We may receive information about you from our payment processors, delivery partners, and analytics or advertising providers, in each case limited to what is needed to complete your order or measure how our Services perform.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Process and fulfil your orders, including arranging payment, delivery, and pickup;
  • Send you order confirmations, invoices, delivery updates, and other transactional messages;
  • Respond to your enquiries, requests, and feedback;
  • Manage your account and any loyalty or gift card balances;
  • Send you marketing communications, where you have agreed to receive them;
  • Screen orders for fraud or other risk, and protect the security of our Services;
  • Understand how customers use our Services so we can improve our products, website, and café;
  • Comply with our legal obligations, including tax and accounting requirements.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the following categories of recipients:

  • Shopify: our online store is hosted on Shopify, which provides the e-commerce platform that allows us to sell to you. Shopify stores your data on its servers and processes it on our behalf. You can read Shopify's privacy policy at shopify.com/legal/privacy.
  • Payment providers: banks, card processors, and payment gateways that process your payment. We do not store full card numbers ourselves.
  • Delivery and logistics partners: couriers and riders who need your name, address, and phone number to deliver your order.
  • Service providers: email, SMS, analytics, and customer support tools that help us operate the business.
  • Professional advisers and authorities: where we are required to share information to comply with applicable law, a lawful request, a court order, or to protect our rights.
  • Business transfers: if Cafrica is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

4. Marketing Communications

If you have opted in, we may send you emails or messages about new roasts, seasonal drinks, events, and offers. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any marketing email, by replying STOP to a marketing SMS or WhatsApp message, or by emailing us at hello@cafrica.pk. Unsubscribing from marketing does not stop transactional messages about orders you have placed.

5. Behavioural Advertising

We may use the information we collect to show you advertisements for products that may interest you, including on social media and search platforms. You can opt out of targeted advertising through the tools offered by those platforms, and through the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out portal at optout.aboutads.info.

Please note that we do not currently alter our data collection practices in response to a Do Not Track signal from your browser.

6. Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device that help a website function and remember your preferences. We use:

  • Essential cookies that keep your session active, remember your cart, and secure checkout. The site cannot function without these.
  • Analytics cookies that tell us how many people visit, which pages they read, and where they leave. This is aggregated and helps us improve the site.
  • Marketing cookies that measure the performance of our advertising and allow relevant ads to be shown to you.

Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies through their settings. Blocking essential cookies may prevent parts of our store, including checkout, from working.

7. How Long We Keep Your Information

We keep your order information for as long as necessary to fulfil your order and to meet our legal, tax, and accounting obligations, typically a minimum of five years from the date of the transaction. Marketing contact details are kept until you unsubscribe. Enquiries sent through our contact form are kept for up to two years unless they relate to an ongoing matter.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal information we hold about you;
  • Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • Ask us to delete your personal information, subject to our legal obligations to retain certain records;
  • Object to or restrict how we process your information;
  • Withdraw your consent to marketing at any time;
  • Request a copy of your information in a portable format.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@cafrica.pk. We may need to verify your identity before we act on your request, and we will respond within a reasonable period.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom: we process your personal information to perform our contract with you, to pursue our legitimate business interests, to comply with legal obligations, or on the basis of your consent. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

9. International Transfers

Cafrica is based in Pakistan. Our service providers, including Shopify, may store or process your information on servers located outside Pakistan, including in the United States, Canada, Ireland, and Singapore. Where we transfer information internationally, we take reasonable steps to ensure it remains protected in line with this policy.

10. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) across our store and PCI-compliant payment processing. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Children

Our Services are not directed at children under the age of 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Third-Party Links

Our website may link to other sites, including social media platforms and Google Maps. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites, and we encourage you to read their policies before sharing information with them.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our practices or for legal reasons. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated more prominently where required.
